Phoenix, Ariz. — The American Advertising Federation - Metro Phoenix (AAFMP), a premier industry resource for the Phoenix advertising community, announced the 2010 Phoenix ADDY® Award winners at its 25th annual ADDY Awards Gala on Saturday, March 6. The gala theme honored the community’s ‘creative beasts’ with a hunt for the elusive sasquatch.
The Phoenix ADDY Awards is the first of a three-tiered national competition. Across the country, entrants from local AAF chapters vie for recognition as the very best creative talent in their markets. Gold award winners go on to compete at the district and national level competitions.
This year, AAFMP received 723 entries in 147 categories from 74 companies throughout the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
Park Howell, President of Park&Co, received the J. Terry Groener Ad Person of the Year Award which honors a member of the Phoenix advertising community who exemplifies service and betterment of the industry.
The coveted “Best in Show Award” was presented to Mindspace, Inc. for its self-promotion calendar. The campaign was developed by Brent Shetler, Creative Director; Kristina Wood, Associate Creative Director and copywriters Darren Steele and Erik Rich.
The Art Directors of the Year award goes to the talented duo of Stewart West and John Johnson from TunnelBravo for the company’s Glo Crazy Lure Co. poster series.
And this year’s Special Judges Award was presented to Riester for the American Lung Association’s “Lungs” tee and poster entries. Creative was developed by Tom Ortega, Executive Creative Director; Ben Dveirin, Associate Creative Director; Mike Rushing, Sr. Copywriter and Bill Robbins, Print Production.
Three students from The Art Institute of Phoenix received Student ADDY Awards in recognition of their creative contributions: Timothy D. Brennan received two Gold Student ADDY Awards for his "Edit Undo" mixed media campaign, and another for the “Type Five Type Foundry” logo. Marc C. Patlan won a Silver Student ADDY for “Chance Foundation” magazine campaign, and student Rob Repta took home the Gold for his “Khaldi Coffee” packaging entry.
Entires are judged from a panel of advertising industry experts from around the county. This year’s extremely talented panel includes Mark Carlson, Creative Director/U.S. Marketing at McDonald’s Corporation (Oak Brook, IL); Alessandra Lariu, Senior Vice President /Digital Group Creative Director at McCann Erickson (New York, NY); and Jay Roth, Senior Copywriter at The Integer Group (Denver, CO).
The ADDYs are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing and rewarding creative excellence in the art of advertising. Each year approximately 60,000 entries are submitted in local ADDY competitions across the United States.
