The Arizona Humane Society

The Arizona Humane Society was founded in 1957 as a private nonprofit organization by a compassionate group of volunteers who recognized the need to end animal suffering in our community. Their first shelter opened in north Phoenix’s Sunnyslope area with the goal of placing unwanted or abandoned animals in new, loving homes.

AZHS now provides services to approximately 50,000 homeless and abandoned animals every year at two Phoenix facilities. In addition to providing food, shelter, medical care and behavior training to animals as they await adoption, they are also dedicated to providing humane education within the community. They are the largest nonprofit full-service animal welfare and protection agency in the state of Arizona
AZHS has a weekly TV show "Pets on Parade," at 12:30 pm every Saturday on KTVK Channel 3. Now in its 50th amazing year, "Pets on Parade" is the longest-running local television show in Arizona! It debuted on December 8, 1958, and has been a "must see" for Valley pet lovers since then. The show features a parade of pets who need new homes, as well as special guest interviews and useful animal-care tips.
"Pets on Parade" was hosted by Marge Wright for over 40 years. "In the age of the Internet and on-demand programming, being on the air for 50 years is truly an occasion to celebrate," said Guy Collison, executive director of the Arizona Humane Society. "We have a deep gratitude for KTVK-3TV for helping us feature tens of thousands of homeless pets and finding them good homes. Over the past 50 years, we have heard some great stories about how these dogs, cats and critters featured on the show have become such vital parts of their families," said Collison. "It's these stories that have made this show the long-running success it is."
